Re: Clarification about either our Greenville or Spartanburg Location and Programs. This season we will offer all of our programs and you can choose to practice out of one of 3 locations: Each location will offer all of our programs ( provided we have sufficient numbers to sign up for a specific program). There has been several questions raised about Travel Team tryouts between Spartanburg and Greenville. Here is an attempt to clear it up and answer the question. * Tryouts and team placement are totally separate. In order to play out of Spartanburg -Westside Club, you would need to try out in Spartanburg and plan to play out of that location as your primary location, you are allowed to practice at any location, if it is within your training skill level group. * Greenville tryouts, will have tryouts for the specific location you choose to participate, with #2 or #3 above. You have to choose between the two. If minimum numbers are not met, we will merge the two locations and determine after tryouts what location to practice from. All Grvl Tryouts will be held at Simpsonville REc. We should know by tryouts what locations will meet min. numbers. We have allowed on a case by case basis a player to tryout in Spartanburg and one of the Greenville locations to see what team she would be placed on, but she would have to choose one or the other locations before tryouts are over. You would need to contact us about this to request. If you do tryout in both locations, you will have to notify the club 24 hrs in advance of our team notice deadline. We do this so we know what spots we have before we announce to remaining teams. TEAM COMPOSURE: It stands to reason, based on past experience, the teams in Spartanburg will be closer in skill level due to the fact we have about 4 to 5 times the participants signed up for that location verses Grvl locations. If you child desires to play on a national level team.. probably Sptbg will be the answer. TEAM PLACEMENT: What does that mean for your child: Example: Lets say in Spartanburg we will offer 5 teams in a specific age division and your child rates out on team 3 after tryouts. In Greenville, there will probably only be one team per age division, possibly combined ages divisions, like 13s & 14s, or 14s & 15s, etc. What this means, you would have closer talented/skilled teams in Sptbg, simply due to the larger numbers and in Greenville a wider range of skill levels per team. There are pros and cons to both. For example, the negative, wider range of talent can prove frustrating to the lower level player- to keep up and to the higher level player - frustrating in drill breakdowns or having to run lower skill level drills. The positive, if you are concerned with a number of a team (1, 2, or 3 Team, etc..) in Greenville, they would mostly like be on 1... guess you can figure out why. COACHES: Both locations have talented and experienced coaches. None of our coaches are clones.. and all have different talents.. but the training system is similar from what we expect to be taught. For the national teams, Spartanburg will have more national coaches. Clinics: All free clinics will operate out of Sptbg WSC, but Greenville area players will have access to these clinics. Clubs: We are all under ONE club- Club South.. we simply are trying to offer the Greenville practice locations as an option for families who can't make the drive to the WSC.
Hope this helps.
