To All Travel Team Participants:

Re: Clarification about Trying Out for Greenville or Spartanburg

There has been several questions raised about tryouts between Spartanburg and Greenville. Here is an attempt to clear it up and answer the question.

* Tryouts and team placement are totally separate. In order to play out of Spartanburg -Westside Club, you would need to try out in Spartanburg and plan to play out of that location.

Tryouts in the Greenville area will be for players who desire to train out of the Greenville locations, which currently will be either Simpsonville Rec or/and Potential Sports Academy.

We have allowed on a case by case basis a player to tryout in both locations to see what team she would be placed on, but she would have to choose one or the other location before tryouts are over.

TEAM COMPOSURE:

It stands to reason, the teams in Spartanburg will be closer in skill level due to the fact we have about 4 to 5 times the participants signed up for that location verses Grvl location. If you child desires to play on a national level team.. probably Sptbg will be the answer.

TEAM PLACEMENT: What does that mean for your child:

Example: Lets say in Spartanburg we will offer 5 teams in a specific age division and your child rates out on team 3 after tryouts. In Greenville, there will probably only be one team per age division, possibly combined ages divisions, like 13s & 14s, or 14s & 15s, etc.

What this means, you would have closer talented/skilled teams in Sptbg, simply due to the larger numbers and in Greenville a wider range of skill levels per team.

There are pros and cons to both.

For example, the negative, wider range of talent can prove frustrating to the lower level player- to keep up and to the higher level player - frustrating in drill breakdowns or having to run lower skill level drills.

The positive, if you are concerned with a number of a team (1, 2,3, etc..) in Greenville, they would be on 1... guess you can figure out why.

COACHES: Both locations have talented and experienced coaches. None of our coaches are clones.. and all have different talents.. but the training system is similar from what we expect to be taught. For the national teams, Spartanburg will have more national coaches.

Clinics: All free clinics will operate out of Sptbg WSC, but Greenville area players will have access to these clinics.

Clubs: We are all under ONE club- Club South.. we simply are trying to offer the Greenville practice locations as an option for families who can't make the drive to the WSC.

Club South is excited to announce the partnership with Potential Sports Academy, located Southwest of Greenville, off Hwy 25 near Donaldson Center. Currently, we plan for Potential to be the home base in Greenville, but we do have other gym sites secured in the event we need them or use them for practice locations. (Simpsonville Rec is one).

BACKGROUND: Potential contacted CS a few months ago requested we consider operating their volleyball program, which began a few years ago. After discussions, we both felt it would be a win-win for all parties. There location would benefit some of our current members and open up new opportunities for that area for Club South.

Plans are to offer the same options we currently offer:

Developmental Beginner Kidz Power
Non-Travel Program ( we may offer limited travel from Potential to our Sptbg location for matches)
Travel Team Program.
Fee's are same as published in CS.
Administration will continue to be handled by CS.
Participants will sign up here- and fees remitted to CS, with same due dates.

Frequently Asked Questions for Potential

What about the practice schedule? the exact schedule will not be known until after registration and will not have the complete flexibility CS-Sptbg will have due to other sports in the facility. Schedules will be posted a min. of 3 wks in advance and will offer some flexibility.

Can we attend practices in Spartanburg also? Yes, a huge plus is you may attend within your training group when you choose.

Will the same programs be offered as Sptbg? Yes, the current goal and plans are to offer all three programs listed above. This could be modified should we not receive sufficient numbers in one area.

Positives of Potential and CS Partnership? There are numerous positives!

CS is a national recognized club, who has had superior training and tournament success with their program design.
This allows more practice flexibility with both locations and options to train with different style coaches- since all members will have access to this.
The organization experience has proven to be a tremendous plus for parents.
The increased flexibility to move players on more team options, in event of need or change.
Plus for parents who were driving from Greenville and desires to play out of Potential location.

Will national teams be formed? Provided with have sufficient talented players sign up for the Potential location- YES. If not, these players will always have the option to be considered for the Sptbg national teams.

Who will coach at Potential? The coaches have not been announced.. should be by our Oct. 15th informational meeting at Wofford College- 3:30.

When will tryout schedule be posted? We should know tryout schedule by mid to late Oct. We will begin Tryouts mid Nov.

DIRECTIONS TO Simpsonville REC:

From Spartanburg: Take I-85 South to I-385 toward Columbia. Take Exit 31(Simpsonville...Don't take toll road.)

Turn left at light. Go 3 miles. Turn right at Clock Tower. Go 1/4 mile. Activity Center on right.

From Atlanta: Take I-85 North to I-385 toward Columbia. Take Exit 31 (Simpsonville...Don't take toll road)

Take left at light. Go 3 miles. Turn right at Clock Tower. Go 1/4 mile. Activity Center on right.

From Columbia: Take I-26 to I-385 toward Greenville. Take Exit 27. Go straight at light. Go approximately 2 miles

to stop sign. Take left at stop sign. Activity Center will be on the right.
