Who tries out?
Beginners or Developmental players DO NOT have to attend try outs. All other Travel Team players are required.
How are team tryouts handled?
Year in and year out, this one area will be controversy with parents who believe their kid is far better than the evaluations of
20-30 coaches. Each must understand, our system has proven itself for over 10 yrs. Players are NOT pre-selected for teams! Specific details of tryouts are provided
below. Each year we improve on the fairness and accuracy of the tryout system.
Once all of these factors are taken into place, the end result is very accurate. We have parents who believe players are chosen based on what school they are from, favorites picked, or political reasons. Many of our coaches have no idea who the player is, what team she played with the previous year or what school she is from.
Can a player join after tryouts or during the season?
Yes, provided we have space on a team based on her ability. Contact CS for details.
Details on
Tryouts
|
Players will tryout within their age division, unless
prior exception by national coaching committee. |
|
|
|
Please note: CS has evaluated over 4000 players in 12
years, our system is very extensive, extremely accurate,
intensive, fair and unbiased. Each player will
receive 50 or more scores from over 30 coaches over two
tryout sessions. This year we have hired a number
of coaches who are not familiar with CS previous players
in order to offer added unbiased ratings. Team
placement will be announced after the last session on a
TBD date. Parents will have 24hrs to accept this offer. Top
Team / Higher Team Syndrome:
Every year we have a number of parents who request their
child be moved up to "challenge" her OR feel their child
needs-deserves to be on the top team. Understand,
if we move players up by request- all would be moved up,
we place based on talent and age. As for top team,
Club South is similar to players coming from MS to HS or
HS to college. They may have been the stud at their
school, but then move into a school/program with a bunch
of studs. We remind all to please research the
success our 2nd, 3rd, even 4th teams enjoy, compared to
other clubs 1st team. |
|
Players who were on a team last year should not
expect to be on the same level team, or higher.
With new players coming in each year, it is reasonable
to expect higher level players could take spots.
This doesn't mean lower teams are less talented, just
more talent on all teams.

CS will accept questions to clarify the scoring system,
but will not accept questions concerning team placement.
Scores are determined by all of the CS Evaluations and
information from the athlete's school coach. A few
coaches may be wrong, but with the number of evaluations
that each athlete receives we feel that our process has
a very high rate of accuracy. We understand that every
parent feels that their child should be in a higher
group. We work hard every year to improve our system,
nothing is perfect, but we feel that it does a very good
job of placing all of our athletes where they can best
excel and improve their skils. Reminder that our record
proves that Club South's 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th teams
have out-perform other clubs First team. |

|
|
Each age division will have two tryouts and one make
up. Players may attend only two of the 3, it is highly
recommended you make the two regular scheduled tryouts. |
|
|
|
Each tryout will be divided into Rounds. There will be
2 to 3 rounds for a 3 hr tryout and 3 to 4 rounds for a
4 hr tryout. |
|
|
|
Each age group will initially be divided into 3 to 5
random selected groups for the first tryout and 1st
Round. |
|
|
|
CS will not publish scores this year between tryouts. We
feel this has simply caused additional undue questions
and confusion. We will publish the summary of scores
when teams are posted. |

Tryouts |
|
Tryout 1 will be divided among 3 or 4 rounds. It is
important we know your primary position. If you don't
know, we will probably place you as an outside hitter.
Rounds are progressive based off average scores from
previous rounds. Players this year will be divided into
groups based on scores from previous rounds. The
re-grouping comes directly from raw scores of numerous
coaches. Each round is re-evaluated within that
group/court to determine if they should be moved up or
down in the next round. Often we get concerns what court
your child is on. Trust the system, if her skill level
is higher than the other group, the coaches will be able
to see that. NOTE THIS: TEAMS ARE NOT SET UNTIL AFTER
TRYOUTS- Don't panic based on your group. |
|
|
|
Each court will have 1 to 2 assigned coaches for
evaluation on numerous skills. Rating from coaches will
be scored on each player as 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd
team, and so forth, based on how many players are within
the age group, assuming 9-10 per team. |
|
|
|
For first round, we will create one extra off group that
will rotate off courts to get verticle jumps measured,
uniform sizes checked, and registration information
checked. Parents are encouraged to be present to verify
uniform sizes- once ordered, we can't change. |
|
|
|
Between Tryout 1 and 2, the coaching committee will meet
to review all data, player position in order to create
groups for final evaulation in Tryout 2. |
|
|
|
National teams are created and offered when we determine
that the team is strong enough to compete on a national
level. We should know this after Tryout 1 what age
groups and how many national teams will be offered.
Players/Parents who do NOT want to be considered for a
national team just need to verify we have that
information. If your child makes a national team, we
will place her on the 1st regional team. |
